P.o.p. the writer
In the still of the midnight hour, I was up watching Fire Aid at the benefit concert, and the legendary band No Doubt performed Don’t Speak. Anyone who’s Gen X or at least an older millennial knows that this was a big hit for them. Where am I going with this? You’ll find out. Just stay with me.
I’m not only a music lover but also a music history buff. I remember seeing behind-the-scene music of No Doubt, and Gwen Stephanie and the bass player had a relationship when they were younger, and I believe Don’t Speak resulted from their break up.
Can you imagine breaking up with the young love of your life and your romance getting immortalized in a song? I can’t put my finger on it, but daring and falling in love felt different in the nineties. Was it because I was younger?
Were we just more innocent? There was something pure that I never was able to recreate again…
