A story of wonder, curiosity, and exploration
Momma told me not to go far. To stay away from the dark depths.
But as I swam about, I heard a delicate tinkling — a gentle musical vibration that lured me in.
So I swam toward the dark depths. The soft blues turning to harder ones. Rich blue green reflecting off my silver gray fur.
I felt the temperature drop slightly and the weeds begin to reach at my fore flippers.
The soft tinkling rose in volume as I swam toward it, my nose poking through reeds and my dark eyes searching.
Louder and louder
And more urgent
I could feel the waves of vibration as they shook the water across my body
Shadows of fish, birds, and other mammals darted across the dark sea floor
As I swam further into the dark weeds, I saw creatures I had not ever seen before
I should have been scared, if not for my unsatiated curiosity
Louder and louder
Deeper and darker, I swam
Until I was drawn not just by the music but by a dim light
Swimming closer, I saw the soft light emanating from a large sea star
Lines of light crossed her body
The lines at her center vibrating with the music — soft lines of light plucked by some magical force
I watched in wonder, feeling an echo of the vibration along my skin
Watching that sea star, I knew that I was not too old for magic
