Steam rises in the kitchen
It seeks out winter’s door
—nobody wants to say goodbye today
The shutters are binding
The neighbor’s kids are laughing outside
birds go swimming in the old lady’s pool
All beauty is wrapped around wood
—the shower just keeps on running
—Young Cassie is looking out the window
her grandmother’s house is orange and red
trees, trees, trees
Shivering
—Where do all the good people go?
breathing in and out
—front door opens
a dress is hanging on the knob.
