Over the past two terms and since I published some essays a year ago, I’ve been writing a book based on my experience as a Master of Architecture graduate student. The book synopsis (back cover) is as follows:

Design is challenging, but harder still is learning methods to approach the act of design. The book takes the position that the early stages of the design process can be considered analogous to a mathematical vector, which conceptualized to launch along a specific trajectory, can formulate an empathetic design that invites participation, engages the imagination, and intensifies a shared experience for a sense of place and a sense of being.

Written in his final year of a Master of Architecture, this book is the cumulation of Keenan Ngo’s architectural education and a previous career in structural engineering. In search of a distinct architecture, Emotive Architecture: A Design Methodology offers a design process focused on creating emotionally charged spatial experiences in architecture.

It’s by no means a long or comprehensive text. Rather, it’s a synopsis of what I’ve learned in school and my stance on how to approach architectural design. It’s like doing a second thesis, but has been equally rewarding.

Writing has helped me understand what I’m doing and I’m very excited to get a book published. The book is in the final stages of proofreading and should be published in the next month when it’ll be available for purchase online.
