Becoming a Magento Maintainer is the highest badge of honor any Magento developer can hope for. For that matter, we are especially proud that two of our front end specialists, Mateusz and Paweł, have now been added to the select circle.

One of the key factors why Magento has evolved into one of the world’s largest e-commerce platforms is it’s an incredibly strong community. With currently 8,000 certified developers, 5,900 individual code contributors, and 1,150 Magento partner companies, no other e-commerce platform can match that level of community commitment. With such a large number of individual contributions, Magento has a lot of work on their hands to review new features or bug fixes submitted by the community.

From the community, for the community

For that matter, Magento is utilizing the help of a distinguished circle of experienced Magento experts, the Magento maintainers. Their task is to review pull requests submitted by community members, ensure backward compatibility of changes, ensure proper testing (unit, integration, functional) and, last but not least, actively help the community with challenges in their day to day handling of the platform. Currently, there are only about 35 Maintainers active globally, two of which bear the flag of creativestyle.

Mateusz Krzeszowiak (Team Lead Frontend Development) and Paweł Tylek (Frontend Developer), both working at the creativestyle Krakow office, have been added as Magento Maintainers in November 2019. Their continued high-quality work on the Magento core in challenging projects has put them in the spotlight of the Maintainers program. When Magento called with the offer to join the club, neither of the guys had to hesitate. “We were actually surprised when we got contacted. For us, contributing was just one of the ways we can give back to the community of the platform we’ve been using on a daily basis.”, Mateusz says.

With great power comes great responsibility

Besides their daily work in creativestyle projects, both developers are now even busier with providing the community with support on frontend development subjects. Basic responsibilities include checking and confirming reported issues, providing fixes and reviewing submitted pull requests. The circle of Maintainers is also very active as a group, discussing new Magento features, current challenges and helping each other out with their individual area of expertise within the Magento environment. “We meet on weekly and monthly meetings to discuss relevant or highly impacting pull requests, what are the next steps for Magento itself, as well as its current state.”, adds Paweł.
