The creator economy is growing to become the primary target market for blockchains and the cryptocurrency ecosystem, as one of the most promising applications of the next generation of the web. Giving back control of data to creators is a crucial challenge to address while building a content sharing platform, considering the de facto requirements of decentralization, trustlessness, and anti-censorship. How can users control who gets to see their content and capture value from their supporters without trusting a central authority? Despite the significant growth in decentralized payment and storage solutions, data access control management seems to be a missing piece of the puzzle to accomplish true decentralization. Current DApps fall back to relying on trusted cloud services or intermediaries, which renders all of the system vulnerable to a single point of failure.

Today, Creaton is proud to announce that we have started a collaboration with NuCypher. This integration will enable Creaton to leverage the cryptographic infrastructures of NuCypher to implement a decentralized access control mechanism in which Creaton users are in full control of their data. With the help of NuCypher’s Proxy Re-Encryption (PRE) and its decentralized network of nodes, we will empower creators to securely and efficiently share their content without trusting any orthodox centralized actors. Given the rising concerns about the monopoly of big tech companies over their platforms, we are even more excited about the positive impact of this partnership for Creaton, as well as the community as a whole.

As part of the collaboration, we will focus on designing Creaton’s access control logic with the help of NuCypher’s development team to refine and develop features that best fit our application. These include existing proposals to implement batch granting and revocation of encryption policies, policy authority and policy sponsor separation, and policy fees management. Our goal is to pinpoint challenges in the way of scaling decentralized access control mechanisms and align our roadmaps to unleash the full potential of NuCypher’s novel cryptography in Creaton.

Creaton is a decentralized content-sharing platform that allows for secure transfer of content in exchange for streaming subscription payments. We provide a censorship-free alternative to centralized applications where our users are the only beneficiaries and fully control their data. Creaton has two main products as part of its ecosystem, Creaton Engine, and Creaton Market. Both are futuristic approaches to peer-to-peer content-sharing and highly well-suited with the Decentralized Finance (DeFi) economy, for creators to create unique revenue streams, build reputation, and award their early supporters. NuCypher is a data privacy layer for blockchain and decentralized applications that enables developers to store, share and manage private data on public blockchains. Its decentralized key management systems use proxy re-encryption to enforce cryptographic access controls for decentralized applications. Proxy re-encryption is a more scalable form of public-key encryption (PKE) that scales to provide a one-to-many data sharing pattern. NuCypher’s security layer allows stored data records to remain private, confidential, and encrypted while maintaining the ability to share these data records with trusted parties.
