There is no doubt that you can learn a lot by reading books and blogs, attending seminars and conferences, and talking with other people in business. And I’m not saying those things aren’t valuable — they are!

But what I’m about to share with you is the best piece of business advice I’ve ever received, and perhaps the best thing about it is that it’s so simple: your time is the only non-renewable resource you have.

The #1 Most Helpful Piece of Business Advice I Ever Heard

While I can’t recall exactly where I heard this one, it has taken me years to fully grasp what it really means. For me, in my business, it means that any “non-paid” interactions must qualify as possible content — as in, I should be able to publish some version of it so that it can help as many people as possible. THAT becomes the payment, in a way, for my time, in this case.

That’s because my time isn’t just wasted or given away — by creating content that is valuable for my readers, viewers, and listeners, I also create potential income via ad revenue, indirectly marketing to potential future clients, affiliate income, etc.

This kind of goes hand-in-hand with my other favorite piece of business advice, given to me early in my career by none other than Carol Tice, freelance writing guru and author of Make a Living Writing

. This lady knows her stuff! In addition to the many other tidbits of online business gold she passed along, Carol told me to stop being afraid to charge what I was worth. This was a huge breakthrough for me.

How about you? What is the most helpful piece of online business advice you ever got? Let me know!
