Part of learning how to be a writer involves setting long-term goals. What do you hope to achieve or become? What are the specific actions you need to take to fulfill your dreams?
For most people, being a professional or career writer means they make enough money to live off their writing. But a lot of full-time authors still have day jobs, since writing isn’t always the most lucrative career path. Even if you don’t plan on pursuing writing full-time, setting long-term goals can inspire you to improve your craft.
Let’s walk through one process for developing a writing goal plan. Here’s my simple Google Docs template you can download if you’d like to follow along. These are the steps I’ll cover below:
