What Do You Do For Inspiration?
Inspiration can be a fickle thing. It doesn’t like to stick to schedule, and can go missing exactly when you need it the most — that moment when you’re faced with a blank page, or stuck searching for the turn of phrase or rhetorical move that can carry you from one idea to the next.
And yet, every writer has a trick or two up their sleeve that invites inspiration and helps them get unstuck. Maybe you need to get away from your desk and go on a long run, or put on a certain song that fills you with creative energy. Reading passages from your favorite writer might remind you of what you enjoy about writing. Or maybe you just need to stand under some water — there’s a reason why “shower thoughts” is a thing.
So, what are your tried and tested tricks to get out of a rut? How do you address the formidable blank page? Or are you the type of writer who simply chains yourself to your desk at the same time every day, and bangs out a word count, whether you’re inspired or not?
