Last month, we urged you to consider your readers when you decide what to write about. (And you all came up with some great stuff.) Now, let’s take that a step further. What, specifically, can you offer your readers? What will they get from reading your work that they need, and want, and can’t get anywhere else?

This is something media websites and other editorial outlets keep in mind while designing content calendars. What service can we offer our readers? It can be helpful to think of your Medium profile as a sort of mini-publication, and your readers as, well, the readers of that mini-publication. Here are a couple of service-minded ideas that feel particularly relevant right now:

Advice for family gatherings

Those times when we gather extended family together can be fun and exciting, but also overwhelming and exhausting — especially if it’s been a while, due to the pandemic. This time of year packs in a bunch of them: Mother’s Day; Memorial Day; picnics; barbecues; end-of-school-year celebrations; and so on. What’s your best advice for keeping get-togethers feeling good?

Surviving “Spring Fever”

How can anyone stay focused on work when it’s finally bright and sunny and warm out (at least in the Northern Hemisphere)? Share your best spring fever story, or your most useful advice for maintaining focus — or giving up on focus altogether! — during this dizzy time of year. Or: How do you hope to grow and change in the season ahead? What’s your fresh new focus?

How to find fresh ideas

You’ve done your spring cleaning, and perhaps you’ve gone back to the office. Now what? How do you come up with bright new ideas at work, inspiration for your writing, or even new plans for what to do with friends and family? Share your best tips and most exciting ideas for what’s next in your personal or professional life.

You’re invited to share your Medium stories in the responses to this post. We want to see what you come up with.
