Writing Prompts: You Gotta Work
This week’s writing prompts are about jobs, careers, and everything in between
We’re living in an era of rethinking work. Whether you’re a part of the Great Resignation, or you’ve decided to (or been forced to) change careers during the pandemic, or even if you’ve just had to get used to remote work or other changes to your workday, chances are your daily life looks a lot different than it did a couple years ago. Today’s prompts get into it.
What’s something about your job that no one knows about? Or something that no one at your workplace can do as well as you can? This can be about a job you have now or one you’ve had in past.
If you could work in a completely different industry than the one you do, which would it be? Maybe it’s a path you almost took, or something you hope to one day. Maybe it’s something you know you could never actually do. It’s still fun to imagine, isn’t it?
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? How far or close are you to that version of reality? Is it still something that appeals to you? It’s okay if it isn’t. Dreams can change, after all. And/or: Do you have a dream job, or big career goal, now? What is it?
You’re welcome to join us for open writing hours every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. PT / 4:30 p.m. ET, through March 31. Use this meeting link to join (the passcode is: Medium). All we do is provide chill music and some optional prompts, so if that timing doesn’t work for you, feel free to set aside your own writing hour sometime. Sometimes just putting it on the calendar makes all the difference.
