Top 5 Best Reptiles For Beginners
A list of five reptiles perfect for the novice enthusiast
Once upon a time, I knew absolutely nothing about reptiles and had never had one as a pet.
It all started with a ball python named Dahlia. I purchased Dahlia from a guy on Craigslist who said he was moving to another state, and couldn’t take her with him because it would be too cold for her. I agreed to meet up with him at his apartment, and my girlfriend at the time went with me, so we could make the transaction and bring her home. Thankfully, Dahlia came with the whole husbandry set up — the tank, the branches, the hides, the lights — you name it — it was included. It was the perfect setup.
It didn’t stop there. In less than a year, I managed to purchased two leopard geckos, two crested geckos, two tarantulas, a corn snake, and two ball pythons. My ex-girlfriend had a bearded dragon, a crested gecko, and a sand boa — yea, we were those people. We had a zoo — no shame.
Friends of mine would always ask me questions about reptile care, but the most popular questions I would get on a regular basis were something along the lines of “which reptile should I start off with?” — or — “which one is easiest to care for?”
If you’re on the verge of purchasing your first reptile, and you’re not sure…
