Two horses sharing a stable and looking very cute.
Fly (L) and Chester (R), by the author

My two horses — Fly and Chester — have been together for almost 15 years. They were recently interviewed for the popular equine-for-equine dating app Neigh-bours* about their long-lasting relationship.

Neigh-bours: Tell us about yourselves. What’s your age, colour, breed and height?

Fly: I’m a 20-year-old grey Australian Stockhorse, 15.3 hands high.

Chester: I’m a 29-year-old palomino Quarter Horse, 15.0 hands high.

Neigh-bours: How did you meet?

Fly: I’d been living on a beautiful property in northwest Sydney for about six months when Chester arrived and took up residence in the neighbouring paddock. I trotted over for a chat across the fence and was instantly attracted to his handsome blonde looks.

We started grooming each other and had a great conversation about the different kinds of grasses and hays we’d been eating lately. It turned out Chester was quite the kikuyu connoisseur and also had some interesting views on the whole clover vs lucerne debate.
