Isle of Bunnies
Have you ever heard about an Island which is ruled by Bunnies? I know it may seem like something out of a Disney movie, but it is very real. Ōkunoshima is a Japanese island located near the Seto Inland Sea. Many tourists come here during summer because of its sunny beaches and of course Rabbits.
There are more than a 1000 Rabbits wandering around on this island. It may not seem like a lot but, it is more than enough for this small island. Without any predators around, these rabbits have bred and increased in great numbers, which they are kind of famous for.
Origin
Today this island may seem like a pretty cool place with all of those bunnies hopping around but the origin of all these rabbits is rather dark .
In 1925 the Japanese imperial army started the development of chemical weapons on this island. It is believed that some rabbits were brought to the island as test subjects to test the effectiveness of chemical weapons, but after the plant was shut down, some of these rabbits managed to escape and survive.
