Have you ever heard about an island filled with furry little cats. Now, I know it may seem like a fairy tale straight out of a Disney movie but it is very real. The name of this island is Aoshima but is now commonly known as the Cat Island due to the large number of felines present on the island. It is located in the Seto Inland sea in the southern part of Japan.

This island is home to more than 190 cats. Now it may not sound like a lot cats but they are more than enough for this small island which is only 1.6 Km long. Compared to these cats, you’d be surprised how many people live on this island. 13, Yep, you heard that right. There only 13 residents currently living on this cat ruled island.

History

So how did these many cats on this island came to be, to the point that they outnumbered humans. Well, there used to be a rodent problem on this island back in the day and to solve this problem some cats were brought to this island.
