Puppy Training Can Save More Than 1.5 Million Lives A Year
What to do when deciding to get a puppy
As a dog trainer, one of the most repeated phrases that I use is “puppy training starts when you decide to get a pet, no matter which species it is.” It is essential to research and be prepared to receive this new family member successfully.
Why do I constantly say that?
In my country, we have an enormous overpopulation of stray dogs and cats. Shelters and rescue organizations work at max capacity with very little help from the government and depend mostly on donations and volunteer work.
Between 2015 to 2018, more than 1.5 million shelter animals were euthanized.
Many of our adoption partners explain that a considerable amount of dogs end in their hands or the streets because of bad behavior — behavior easily avoided with proper education.
But you don’t have to donate or become a volunteer to help lower the scary statistics.
By starting puppy training a newly acquired furry baby, we are saving one life and making a difference one dog at a time, reducing the odds of that dog ending in a shelter for bad behavior.
