Creditas Mexico’s First Hackday

This September, Creditas had its first Hackday. The main focus was to set a space for people to innovate and have a little get away from routine, although it was an amazing opportunity to share knowledge, collaborate, and work on amazing projects and ideas that the tech and product team had on mind.

What were we aiming for?

As a technology company, it is pretty important for us to foster these activities and incentivize everyone to expose and create new ideas.

Many people doing many things at the same time

In the Mexico team it was such an interesting day, we have a team with 20 crew members every single one participated in this dynamic; product managers, software engineers, UX Designers and so on. They worked in some software components that they needed to enable future software developments, some micro services that will help in our current products, and a vacation marketplace that uses our credit products as a payment method.

Heating up the machine

It was a day full of rush and excitement. We started talking about ideas that the team previously submitted exposing the product goals and benefits, which profiles were needed to develop in an agile way their projects, technical resources and so on. It was amazing seen how everybody was getting out of their comfort zone and taking ownership of everything. Software engineers taking Product management roles, Designers thinking as developers, and QA, and some people taking care of business strategy or even project managers.

…And we got down to work

After the kick off, the team organize themself in teams, start planning their projects. After that everyone was working to set about those amazing ideas.

It was incredible to watch everybody collaborating and giving their best in these projects.

At the end, we got together to talk about the results and it was mesmerizing, a lot of lessons learned, ideas to improve our daily processes. The experience taking different roles as their usuals led people to understand a lot of things that they didn’t know and also being more empathic about the challenges that everyone is facing on a daily basis.

What we learned?

We think that having this experience of collaboration and learning was an important part of this Hackday, just as important as the products they developed.

After the hackday, teams from Brazil, Valencia and Mexico got together to show off their products and share experiences. It was a successful initiative that we are going to repeat soon.
