Meet Raphael Coelho, Credix's Senior CRS Quantitative Associate
We are thrilled to introduce our newest addition to the team, Raphael Coelho, as our CRS Quantitative associate. Raphael’s professional journey has been one of continuous growth and exploration, starting with software engineering and progressing to data science before finally discovering their passion in quantitative finance. As a senior quantitative in our Credit Risk and Structuring team, Raphael plays a vital role in analyzing loan tapes, managing portfolios, and spearheading the development of cutting-edge models for structured finance deals.
We sat together with Rapha, this is what he had to say…
What’s your background and experience?
My career has been a continuous journey of growth and exploration. It started with software engineering at ThoughtWorks, where I built a solid foundation in technology. From there, my path led me to data science, an area that naturally combined my tech expertise with an interest in data-driven insights and quantitative modeling. Over time, I further expanded my professional landscape by stepping into the field of quantitative finance, where I was lucky to have multiple experiences across family offices, money management firms, and most recently, prior to Credix, at Nubank as a quantitative manager.
Why did you choose Credix?
When I first came across Credix, it sparked my interest in a unique way. It wasn’t just another startup, but a platform that echoed my professional aspirations and passions. With a focus on utilizing blockchain to structure finance debt deals in emerging markets, Credix was not just another player in the finance sector but, in my opinion, a game-changer. The opportunity to work with this incredible team — on the challenges we tackle — just felt right. Beyond the alignment of our visions, what truly solidified my decision to join Credix was the culture of innovation, the collective ambition of the team, and the potential to contribute to a meaningful impact in the world of finance.
What will be your role and day-to-day at Credix?
As a senior quantitative in the Credit Risk and Structuring team, my role is a blend of diverse tasks. From analyzing loan tapes and assessing credit risk to developing models for structured finance debt deals and managing our portfolios, each day brings a fresh set of challenges. My role requires me to consistently leverage my skills in quantitative finance, programming, and financial modeling, but it’s the real-world application and potential for innovation that keeps me continually engaged and inspired.
What are you most excited about?
We are amid a significant evolution in the financial sector, and Credix is right at the heart of it. The challenge is not only to use blockchain to replicate traditional finance. We’re leveraging this technology to tackle one of the most interesting problems in capital markets: robust funding for credit in emerging markets. We bet both on technology and financial know-how and that intersection is very special to me. I’m excited to build an end-to-end, blockchain-enabled platform that empowers both investors and lenders to get more efficient management of their investment opportunities and financing.
