Aprilia to introduce 300–500cc motorcycles for India
Aprilia is all set to introduce low capacity affordable sports bikes in the country. Piaggio currently imports bikes into India and has already started the local production of the SR150 scooter. The bikes currently imported are got in via the CBU route and have an extremely high cost.
Aprilia has a good collection of bikes in the 300–500cc space and would like to introduce those bikes in the Indian market. The Indian market is slowly opening up to these newer brands and bigger capacity engines. This could be due to an increase in 2-wheeler enthusiasts and increased spending power. Aprilia would seriously like to leverage this in their favour.
Currently, the bike is retailed by the Motoplex store, run by Piaggio, in Pune. The brand plans to expand to Chennai, Hyderabad & Kochi in the near future.
No confirmation on which bikes will be making their way into the country and how will they be brought in (via the CBU or CKD route). It is exciting to see such huge brands servicing their fans in the country, goes to show how much the Indian 2-wheeler market has matured over the years.
