Rs. 8,500 for a slipper clutch on old RC 390 & Duke 390
The KTM 390 and RC390, which are powered by a 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke petrol motor producing 44 PS of power and 35 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox, recently got a slipper clutch update. All the new KTM’s will come equipped with slipper clutches from the factory.
For the bike owners who already bought the bike, they can add on the slipper clutch from any KTM dealership. All they have to do is pay 8,500 INR ((labor & taxes extra) and the arrangement is attached to the bike. The installment is simple, very few changes are made, even the clutch cable remains the same. When the question of warranty arises, since this clutch is going to be attached from the company, there should be no worry.
What the slipper clutch essentially does is it considerably reduces the effects of engine braking when the rider downshifts too quickly. When you drop to lower gear, and the engine RPM doesn’t match, the slipper clutch will partially disengage or slip allowing to bypass some amount of revolutions, thus preventing the rear wheel from locking up. As it absorbs engine braking, it makes the overall riding less jerky and more stable.
A very useful feature if you like to enter fast into corners when riding around your favourite twisty roads.
