We are often impressed and proud whenever we spot a woman riding a bike. Not a bicycle or a pesky little scooter, we’re talking motorcycles, real powered motorcycles. You have no idea how open our jaws are when we spot them on an Enfield. It’s not just empowering but also bloody cool!
Shruti Singh is the perfect example of what we’re talking about! Shruti is a dual personality who is professionally a coder and application creator for businesses and a passionate biker from the heart.
Shruti grew up listening to stories about her father and his Rajdoot. Her father has always had a dream of owning a Royal Enfield someday and that dream influenced and inspired Shruti too. When Shruti came to Pune, she met a few bikers from the ‘Blitzkrieg Riding Club’ and that’s when it all came alive for her. Her biking dreams and passion urged her to get her first Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 and also make her father’s dream come true.
Shruti’s dream didn’t end there; she is currently waiting for the delivery of her brand new Royal Enfield Himalayan, due to her extreme love for off-roads and dirt tracks. Her eyes are set on the Ducati Monster 821 though.
To spice things up a bit, we asked her what she’d do if someone were to take her bike away from her. She says, “I would definitely not let that someone live in peace till he returns my bike back. I’ll do anything for my Bullets.” We’re sure no one would want to mess with such pure
love!
Jobs are mostly always boring but something like bike riding is the perfect outlet for such boredom and Shruti understood that just perfectly. Bike riding is what keeps her calm and gives her the outlet from the boring daily job.
Bikers are never short of interesting experiences and stories. Shruti has a really fascinating story to tell too. The Journey of Being the 1st Lady rider to ride a bullet to Marsimik-la (Highest Motorable pass- 18953ft):
“We were a group of 9 BRC riders chilling at Pangong tso discussing the next early morning Marsimik-la plan. Few villagers overheard us and warned us saying, “Are you guys crazy, you cannot go there!” ignoring what they just said we continued having our hot tea and Maggi.
The Next Morning when we reached the Army Gate for permissions they warned us “You guys need to be back by 11.00 am after that the weather gets worst. And one more thing, before 1.5kms of Marsimik-la milestone you will have to park the bikes and trek as there is literally no road to the top.” Giving a Thumbs up, we continued.
The first few kms was smooth with gravel and dust, soon as we were riding towards the top snow welcomed, riding a
few kms in the snow we were wondering, why we were warned when it all seemed pretty normal. Suddenly the road stopped! Literally! We could see 5 to 10ft snow all around, but we were determined enough to not give up. Slicing through the snow we were going slowly, but suddenly the lead rider’s bullet sank 5 feet under the snow. We then realized as we go on the top the soft snow bed is waiting for us where it’s going to be impossible for us to ride.
Few people then decided to go back to Pangong tso and few decided to trek till top, but the Blood rush in me wanted to take my bullet till the milestone and kiss it. I could see the milestone was just 1 km away and I just couldn’t give up. I literally prayed to god to show us some route, even if it was a difficult one but I wanted it.
After few minutes, far away, we saw an Army Truck coming down from top and we all
shouted “Yay!! We still have hopes”, but even a truck with such huge wheels was finding it difficult to move through the mud and snow. Our bullets were half in slush, we had to make sure we can keep up a momentum and not let out bikes roll in mud and get stuck. We were drained out. For covering 10 mts we were taking 10 mins. With minus temperature and low oxygen, we felt breathless.
That 1 km of ride to the Marsimik-la top took us 3 hours. The 1st thing I did after reaching was screamed (hope the chinese people on other side didn’t hear it :P) and kissed my bullet for giving me a memorable experience to cherish for lifetime.”
Shruti is so interesting that we’re definitely going to invite her to our group rides, who wouldn’t?
