Superbikes in Maharashtra to get dearer by 13%

The Maharashtra Transport department has proposed a hike of 13% on bikes which have been bought as completely built units (CBU’s).

The current rate on registering an import bike is 7% and that is all set to become 20%. This would increase the on-road price of all these bikes. This price hike on CBUs is being done to increase the help promote local production of bikes. Since this move is being made only across Maharastra, the bike manufacturers won’t take to local assembly. This would require a huge investment from their end.

None of the manufacturers, except Ducati, have increased the prices of their by 20%. They have promised to pay the excess RTO fee’s if the tax hasn’t been increased as yet!

This news however isn’t going to result in a big spike in superbike purchase in the the coming weeks as the riding season for big bikes will mostly be off in the monsoon.

This hike could make your favourite full import superbike expensive by a minimum of Rs. 1 lakh.
