With the temps dropping, the time changing, and the skies graying over — we’re sledding towards Winter at full-speed and that means new release improvements! Salesforce’s Winter ’19 Release is here and with it come all sorts of new bells and whistles to boost productivity and improve usability! Last week we took a look at the new and improved Outlook integration, and how it can save you time, effort, and wrist-action when handling emails. Today, let’s pivot our focus to the back-end and take a peek at a powerful new info-tool: Drill Down!

[And if you’d rather watch than read, jump down to the bottom of this post to enjoy a short demo video!]

Lightning Reports: Drill Down

Reports are amazing. That’s no secret — it’s practically a Salesforce mantra. Seeing all your relevant information in one place organized, collated, and presented clearly empowers you to make better business decisions. Reports are awesome at showing you what the current situation is, but have you ever wondered why?

Why does Cindy’s sales pipeline look so much more promising than Bill’s? How many of our Q4 opportunities will be closed this month? Do our recently closed deals have anything in common that might explain the uptick in buy-ins?

With the new Lightning Reports: Drill Down, you can finally get to the heart of those ‘Qs’ and find the ‘As’ that’ve been hiding in your data!

How it Works:

Drill Down essentially lets you dive deeper into a report by filtering and grouping the existing fields in new arrangements. The result is greater insight into the relationships between your metrics and, hopefully, a clearer picture of what you can do to improve the numbers moving forward. For instance, let’s say you’re a sales leader looking at your pipeline report and you you’ve got two reps with wildly different forecasts. Drill Down will let you select just those two reps (or more if you want one or two as a “control”) and then recast the report grouped by lead source, stage, industry/vertical, State, whatever field you think might shine some light on the discrepancy.

Maybe it turns out that while one rep has been chasing down web-leads, the other’s been too focused on trade-show attendees. Or perhaps there’s one or two industries driving a majority of the current pipeline velocity and all your reps would benefit from a shift of focus to take advantage of the boom. Drill Down gives you the freedom to get to the core of your data relationships and confirm or deny your intuitions, or inspire new ways to effectively approach your core business.

No need to create a bunch of custom-tweaked sub-reports. No need to guess if your hunch is correct. A couple clicks, absolutely no code, and you’re a level-deeper in the data, seeing exactly the relationships you want and making informed business decisions.

Happy working!
