Natalee Holloway made headlines around the world when she vanished from the Caribbean resort of Aruba more than a decade ago. She was last seen getting into a car with a charming young Dutchman. That man is now in prison for another woman’s murder — was Natalee his first victim?

Holiday from hell

Natalee Ann Holloway, from Mississippi, USA, was 18-years-old when she arrived in Aruba on 26 May 2005 to celebrate graduating from Mountain Brook High School.

Natalee was far from alone — in fact, she was accompanied by 124 classmates and seven chaperones on the five-day trip. Keen to make the most of the sunshine and free-flowing alcohol on the Caribbean island, Natalee and her friends set to partying hard all day and night.

29 May was the penultimate day of their trip and Natalee and her friends headed to the casino in their Premier Inn hotel to celebrate. It was there that she met a 17-year-old Dutch student, Joran Van der Sloot. The pair got along well and agreed to meet up later at Carlos’ n Charlie’s nightclub in Oranjestad.
