A Korean Family Brutally Abused And Killed Their Adopted Baby

Now, the case of Jeong-In is the subject of societal outrage

In October 2020, in Korea, a 16-month old baby named Jeong-In was killed by her adoptive parents. They brutally abused her before she died, and there were three separate reports of child abuse that police failed to respond to.

The case has led the South Korean police chief to apologize in a public statement and President Moon Jae-In to express regret over authorities not making the well-being of adopted children a priority. Some protestors have advocated for the death penalty during the trial of Jeong-In’s adoptive parents. It has also led “Sorry, Jeong-In” to be one of the top trending tweets on South Korean Twitter after a member of BTS, Jimin, and other singers and actors posted the hashtag and made adoptions to adoption agencies. President Moon Jae-In said:

“Despite having made police reports three times, (the authorities) failed to separate (the child from the adoptive parents) in the beginning, and the preliminary investigation was done poorly,”

According to Shin Hye-Yeon and Ser Myo-Ja at Korea JoongAng Daily, Jeong-In was adopted by a family in southwestern Seoul. She was adopted in January 2020 by a family with a 4-year-old biological daughter. The father…
