Did John Wayne Gacy Have an Accomplice?
The “Killer Clown” is believed by some to have had a little bit of help in committing his gruesome murders
John Wayne Gacy was arrested and booked for multiple murders in December 1978. What the police discovered when they executed their search warrant was horrifying — 26 bodies buried under his house, with more in his yard and in the nearby Des Planes River. This brought the total number of victims to at least 33, as reported by Biography.
Gacy was active as a killer between 1972 and 1978, with most of his murders happening in the last two years before his arrest. His method was particularly violent, involving luring, drugging, sexually assaulting, and strangling his victims. The sheer number of victims in that short time, along with an account of one of his surviving prey, has made some people wonder if he had a bit of assistance in his butchery.
Gacy was a contractor, and he had many male employees coming in and out of his house and garage. One former employee, David Cram, even testified at Gacy’s trial that he dug graves for Gacy’s victims without knowing what he was really doing (per the Montreal Gazette). Gacy paid Cram to dig trenches beneath his home, which Gacy later used to bury most of the bodies.
