In early December 2016, 19-year-old Sarah Stern was reported missing. Her car was found abandoned on a bridge, with the key still in the ignition. Her childhood friend Liam told authorities Sarah had been suicidal in the past which made investigators believe she could have taken her own life.

It soon became clear that Sarah Stern was murdered and robbed by none other than Liam himself. He had been planning her murder for six months. So, what happened to Sarah and why?

The Disappearance of Sarah Stern

Early in the morning on December 3, 2016, an Uber driver was going down the Route 35 bridge over the Shark River in Belmar, NJ. He noticed a 1994 Oldsmobile stopped on the bridge with no driver in sight. Because of the hour and the strange place to leave a car, the Uber driver called authorities.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the keys were still in the ignition and the car was unlocked. This initially led investigators to believe they were dealing with a possible suicide. When they ran the plate number, it turned out the Oldsmobile belonged to 96-year-old Lillian Stern. They quickly discovered Lillian was at home and well, but it was her granddaughter Sarah that had been using…
