When John Saal was sworn in as the Sheriff in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, it was a dangerous job to have. In the early 1900s, Tangipahoa was second only to New Orleans in crime and murders. It had such a bad reputation, people referred to it as “Bloody Tangipahoa”.
