The Bodies of Fox Hollow Farm
One man’s bravery helped end Herb Baumeister’s reign of terror.
Herb Baumeister met his wife Julie in college. The couple got married, had 3 kids, and began living a rather normal suburban life.
In the ’80s, Herb and Julie opened up two thrift stores and made enough money to buy their dream home. Fox Hollow Farm was a sprawling 18-acre estate complete with a 5 bedroom home and indoor pool.
From the outside, it looked as if the Baumeisters had achieved the perfect life. His humor could be dark, but Herb was by all accounts a hardworking man and a doting father.
When you got inside the Baumeister’s facade, the cracks were visible.
On the direction of his father, Herb was hospitalized shortly after getting married, for schizophrenia. He was diagnosed as a teenager but never treated for it.
The marriage also wasn’t going as smoothly as the couple presented it. Herb and Julie were rarely affectionate towards each other. By Julie’s own account they engaged in sexual intercourse 5–6 times in their 25-year marriage that produced 3 children.
Julie didn’t find it to be too problematic, but Herb was hiding his true identity.
