Stephen Grant was always an odd guy. He was known to lie in order to compensate for his shortcomings, making his social life difficult.
When it came to his pursuit of women he often went to extremes. Tara Destrampe was going to college at Michigan State when she met Stephen.
At first, Tara wasn’t interested in him as a romantic partner. Part of that was because she had a boyfriend back home in the upper peninsula of Michigan where she grew up.
At the beginning of their friendship, Tara received news that her grandmother had passed away and drove home. Stephen saw it as an opportunity to show her how much he liked her.
He traveled the five hours to support her. Tara was surprised especially since her boyfriend was present.
It made a big impression on her family and they invited Stephen to stay at their home. He declined because of the potential awkwardness and drove back to Lansing.
The gesture ultimately worked. She called Stephen and told him she was in love with him. Upon her arrival back at Michigan State, the two began a relationship.
