Audrey Marie Frazier was born in 1933 in Anniston, Alabama, though later, she would shave years off her birth date. It was only one of the many ways she re-shaped her life story. Marie, who went by her middle name, was a pretty, petite, and spoiled only child who was used to getting what she wanted. Her looks and charm affected men, and throughout her life, she’d use men to do her bidding and help her.

Marie married Frank Hilley, a quiet, unassuming man, and had two children, Mike in 1953, and Carol in 1960. The Hilleys appeared to be the ideal southern family. They attended church on Sunday and showed up at Mike’s baseball games. Both kids went to local schools. Marie, an efficient secretary, worked at the local gas company.
