He didn’t receive the treatment he needed.
On Sunday 15 July 2018 at 1.00 AM, a fight took place at a house in Ellenbrook, Western Australia. Neighbours woke to hear fighting and screaming. There were also growling noises like an animal would make. Then it went quiet.
Shortly after, at around 1.30 AM, a young man named Teancum Vernon Petersen-crofts, 19, approached a combined gas station and 7–11. He was shirtless and paced about outside for a while before approaching. He spoke to the attendant through the service window. There was blood on his hands.
Petersen-Crofts told the attendant that he had just killed his mother and siblings.
He told the worker that he killed them because otherwise, they would have killed him. He said that they were hitting him with a club and poking him with knives. He also said they were laughing at him.
The attendant immediately dialed 000, the emergency number in Australia. Police arrived and arrested Petersen-Crofts.
Police were already familiar with him. On Friday, just two days before, Petersen-Crofts had gone to the local police station. He had been shirtless that time too and sweating profusely. He told the police that his neighbour was a serial killer.
