Barbara Daly was a beautiful and tragic woman. However, her life was far from idyllic. When she was 11-years-old, her father committed suicide in the garage of the family home. She and her mother leaned on one another after his death.

In mid-1933, the ladies decided to move to New York City. Barbara was popular with the city’s elite right away. She began booking modeling assignments right after their arrival in the Big Apple. This led to more invitations to exclusive parties. It seemed as though everything was good for the Daly women.

They, however, both dealt with emotional issues. Each woman saw a psychiatrist to deal with the problems, many of which stemmed from the suicide of Barbara’s father. The young woman seemed to be on the verge of a breakthrough when Hollywood came calling for her.

This was a life-changing decision for Barbara Daly.

Introduction To A New Life

When Barbara went to Hollywood, she screen-tested for a movie opposite Dana Andrews. The role went to another actress but the young lady stayed behind. She met a new friend, Cornelia Baekeland. The pair grew close fast.
