28 July 1996 wasn’t a typical day on the English Channel.

At around 5 am, two fishermen went fishing in a remote place. They cast their net and waited for a while.

It was pretty heavy when they pulled the net out of the water.

The men, excited to check out their jackpot, quickened their pace.

To their horror, their catch wasn’t a giant, exotic fish. It was a dead man.

The men immediately called the police, and one of the wildest investigations began.

The man with a Rolex

The police assumed that the man had died from an unfortunate accident — a boating misadventure or an unexpected fall from the cliff.

But they still had to identify the victim and his story.

And it was no simple task.

The police found no missing person complaints, no ID, and his pockets were empty. All they found was the man’s expensive Rolex watch.

The autopsy report confirmed multiple injuries on the dead man’s head and body, which may have resulted from falling into the lake.
