Two deaths were linked to Mary Orsini but was money the real motive?
“I need help. My husband is bleeding in bed,” Mary Orsini told the 911 operator on March 12, 1981. She sounded like she was in a panic, so the operator assured her that paramedics and police would be out to her home as soon as possible.
What the officers discovered when they arrived was that Ron Orsini had been shot. His widow claimed to have slept in their daughter’s room and hadn’t heard anything. She claimed she woke up and found him dead.
She would go on to present their marriage as being ideal. There were issues, she admitted but overall they loved one another and were committed to making the relationship work.
Investigators were stumped. There was no evidence on who could have killed Ron Orsini. They continued to look at Mary but felt that there wasn’t enough evidence to take to the prosecutor.
As luck would have it, a private investigator gave them a call and shed some light on the Orsini marriage. Fred Myers informed the detectives that in November 1980, Mary hired him to check up on her husband’s activities. She believed that he might be involved in illegal activities.
