Six days later, Mark Winger called 911, saying that he had shot Harrington to death after Harrington killed Donnah with a hammer in their home. The police initially believed that Harrington had broken into the Wingers’ home and murdered Donnah in retaliation for their complaint to Harrington’s employer.

The supposed ‘heroic’ act of Mark Winger who allegedly killed a home invader.

On August 29, 1995, 911 dispatchers in Springfield Illinois received a harrowing call from a frantic man who was screaming and crying hysterically, the officer on the line could barely make out the words ‘help … my wife was killed … I shot him dead’… Mark Winger, the man who made the phone call had just killed the man who broke into his house and viciously assaulted his wife, Donnah Winger.

Tragically Donnah did not survive the ordeal and Mark was hailed as the tragic hero who tried his best to protect his wife and daughter.

Strangely, Mark was not too concerned with the passing of his wife and even remarried not long after, he loved to boast about his heroic act to anyone who would listen leaving some to believe that this seemingly loving husband might not have been telling the whole truth…

In the dead of the night when all seems quiet and you think you’re safe that’s when evil comes out to play.
