Anti_Smoking Law. Crisis Management Simulation Lab, Panteion University -The Marvels.
During our Crisis Management Lab, we were asked to do a search and learn more details about the smoking law that has been established in Greece the year 2019.
After our research we found out that recent attempts to legally restrict smoking begun way back, in 2002. The legal framework became stricter on 2009. However, the law had not been applied. With the Law 4633/2019 of Hellenic Parliament legal loopholes have been completely abolished. Many people and businesses have already been fined. Smoking is not allowed in most public spaces, including coffee shops, night clubs and casinos.
Part of our research was to find the main stakeholders behind the smoking industry. From that, we could understand better and globally the groups of our community that would be most affected by the smoking law.
The main stakeholders are :
- Tobacco Industry
- Tobacco Points of Sale
- Smokers
- Non-smokers
- Coffee shops, night-clubs. Any business where customers smoke regularly.
- Insurance System, Insurance Companies
- People that have developed diseases due to smoking
- Senior citizens, sensitive/vulnerable groups
The Key Message
The results of this research sawed us a lot of interesting foundings, that led us to the key message. As it seems, Greeks are the heaviest smokers in E.U. Respect your health, respect the law, respect the right of your fellow citizens to healthy living.

For Smokers : Stop poisoning your body and people around you. This time the Law is going to be applied for real. Find support at your local “Stop smoking” Health Clinic.
For Non-Smokers : Greece is finally changing. You have the right to fresh air and the law by your side.
For Coffee shops and Night clubs : Fresh air, clean space, better working life for your staff and your customers.
