The new anti-smoking Law In Crisis?

If there is one law that was discussed like no other last year, that is definitely the anti-smoking one. During our Crisis Management Lab, Part Of #AdAndPrLab, of Panteion University, we had the chance to learn more about this new (and important) law.

The new government of Greece adopted and ultimately passed the Law 4633/2019, which explicitly prohibits smoking indoors. Exceptions are not the electronic cigarette and the vapor. In reality, however, this is not a new arrangement. A few years ago, to be precise, in 2010, the Greek government enacted an anti-smoking law, in order to protect passive smokers from the negative effects of smoking and to mobilize our fellow citizens to put a stop to this unhealthy habit.

In fact, this law, although voted as innovative, was never implemented. The state passed the law, but businessmen and customers took a different thesis … The winners of this informal “fight” were the latter.

But what changes with the new law?

i. The ban on smoking centers, casinos, gambling shops is abolished,

ii. Hellenic Police (ELAS) added to Law Enforcement Authorities,

iii. the ban is introduced in the entertainment venues of minors and athletes.

A very important stage of the research was to find the key stakeholders, which are:

Tobacco Industry

Tobacco Sellers

Media Field

Night Clubs / Centers Of NightLife Fun

Coffee Shops, without a separation between “Smokers” & “Non-Smokers” Room

Luxury Lifestyle & Entertainment

Smokers

Non-Smokers

Teenagers / People that feel smoking is “cool” and “fun”

The Key Motto: Healthy is the new cool!

Non-Smokers: Free to breathe fresh air & enjoy their meal without the smell of smoke.

Smokers: This is an excellent time to stop or reduce smoking. It Is The Best Choice For Your Health.

Night Clubs & Luxury Lifestyle Holders: Play By The Rules & Win The Game, without a cigarette in your hands.

Teenagers: There are so many things & activities to feel important & cool. Smoking is not one of them.

Media Field: Why to hold a cigarette, when you can hold a microphone?

We are the heaviest smokers in the European Union, but not for too long! Right?
