Re Engage Users with product emails

At a time when maintaining “inbox zero” is a sign of diligent OCD and productivity, product emails need to be right from the start.

Businesses need to send different emails in their user’s product journeys.They thus they have to keep a lot of things in mind while creating these different emails.This article will highlight the most common design guidelines and best practices matters emails, with screen shots of emails I have received from fiverr a freelance service marketplace.

Types of emails

  • Newsletter emails
  • Marketing emails
  • User onboarding emails: welcome, password reset
  • Order and payment confirmation emails: contains purchase order and request for payment. Basically follow up emails.
  • Basic informative emails

Choose a good template

This will help you create responsive emails with well laid out dimensions.

Test the emails

To ensure they work and look good across different devices and email clients.

Fonts, spacing and colors

Consider line spacing,white space,padding around the main text, font size and the colors used.

Logo, front name, address, subject line and header.

Decide on the logo positioning at the top(right,center or left).This also entails the brand name and email address with a personalized subject line at the top.

Preview

This is the preview/ highlight of what one sees before they open the email.Focus is to capture the readers attention from the start with a captivating preview.

Call to action buttons and links

Make the CTAs prominent. Also decide on their sizes, color and messaging for the different emails.

Images

Images should definitely have an alt text. This text appears inside the image container when the image cannot be displayed.

Signature

Choose a common signature for all emails regarding the message being communicated, and that portrays the brand well.

Body

Content in the body should be short, concise and relevant.Check spacing in the message body. You can separate content in the body with a line, clear border spacing and colors.

Footer

Include preferences: eg unsubscribe or tune preference at the bottom of the email.Decide on what socials to include in the footer and the logo, footer color, and what content goes where. Also can have a clear footer message why this email was sent. This space if well utilized can be used to advertise things like download app here or visit site for more info.
