What. A. Stream.

The Critical Hit team streamed for 24 hours and with all your amazing help, we raised over $5500 to support the Critical Cause fund to support mental health initiatives in Winnipeg!

The incredible guests, awesome new friends we made in the chat, and phenomenal times we’ve had together will live in our memories as beacons of light for years to come.

Your donations are now part of a fund that will exist in perpetuity: forever.

Every year, as we keep working to grow A Critical Cause, we’ll be able to make a regular contribution to a mental health organization in Winnipeg. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sitting down with the help of The Winnipeg Foundation, and, using the input we received from all of you during the stream and our own research/experiences, we’ll be making sure we can support the programs that will help bridge the gaps in mental health services here in the city.

Our ability to make regular contributions with this fund means that the program we choose can look forward to consistent funding, which is one of the most important ways service and charity organizations can budget to grow and maintain their initiatives.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Your donations = $4640
  • The Winnipeg Foundation Matching $1 for every $5 of donations = $928

Total Donations = $5568

You’ve all blown our minds with your support, love, and awesomeness.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Because we went over $4000, that also means we shaved Nolan’s head ❤

You can still donate! The fund is open all year, and can always be found at tiny.cc/criticalcause

We have some specific thank you’s for our guests and extra helpful supporters, and you can be sure that we’re already planning next years event!

So Many Thank Yous ❤

The Winnipeg Foundation

We were looking for a new venue that could accommodate our team, our guests, had good Internet, and would let us stay overnight! Not only did The Winnipeg Foundation deliver, we had an amazing view of Portage and Main. Thank you for your quick support during the stream with handling donations and tracking them, and for helping us have a home.

Jay Acevedo at Ubisoft Canada,

You are a hero. Over the course of the stream we gave away multiple copies of awesome Ubisoft titles including Watch Dogs 2, For Honor, Ghost Recon: Wildlands and The Division.

During the stream, we got our ‘For Honor’ on, and tore up the battlefield medieval style. It was a blast, and all the people who won copies of those games in the raffles were thrilled. Thank you Jay.

Alec Holowka of Infinite Ammo,

Your donation. Your presence. Your story. We are truly thankful for the experience we shared with you during the stream, and appreciate your heartfelt sharing of your mental health experiences. Doing fun voiceovers and singing along with Night in the Woods was a true highlight!

John Pirrie of StoryUP Games,

We’ll forgive that it’s taken you until now to start playing through classic games, because your love for the games you play and the infectious way you talk about them pumps us up!

Danielle Cloutier of CBC,

You may have been thrown into the deep end with Super Meat Boy, but you have more guts than many of us for playing Resident Evil 7. It was great having your perspective on games!

Daniel Voth of Winnipeg IGDA and the Winnipeg Game Collective,

You brought the win, and the Winnitron to our stream. The way you support the Winnipeg developer community is phenomenal, and we’re so lucky to have had you make it down, even if your laptop battery got low during Nidhogg ;)

Dylan Fries of Electric Monk Media,

Your work with virtual reality is fascinating, and your passion for game development spills over to so many people. We’re excited to fly around the forest as an owl in your upcoming game Phantom of the Forest!

Justin Koop and Matt Woelk of OKLetsPlay,

Hilarious commentary, and cool game dev tips were just a couple of reasons we are thankful you could join! Justin, your enthusiasm for sidescrollers was lit, and Matt, your beard and gamedev insights were enough to convince some of us to try our hands at building a game! “Does it have a win condition? It’s a game.”

Lauren Parsons of TwoSeasonCity

You shared your mental health experience, your blog, and put up with an awful amount of people yelling at video games. Your calming presence was so great to have, and we really appreciate what you share on your blog.

Shawn Bernard of ThePyroTV on Twitch

Your handsome face, quick humour and clutch tech support really amped up the stream. You’re a standup guy and lively presence! People may have joked about your hairline but it’s just because they’re jealous of your big heart.

Kirk Fierback, Graeme Fortlage, and Scott Sturby of Extra-Life Winnipeg

The work you do with Extra Life in Winnipeg supporting children’s hospitals and rallying the game community around charity is so admirable. You’re all around nice guys, and even though one of you is a Canadiens fan, you’re always welcome!

Mark MacAvoy of SuperGamerPodcast

You’ve stuck with us every year, and we really appreciate your willingness to help out with whatever, wherever, even really late at night! Thank you for loving games with us.

There are so many people who helped us out throughout the stream, and a big thank you to everyone, even if we missed you here.

It was a whirlwind 24 hours, and we are grateful for all of you.
