If you were to ask any N64 kid what their favorite thing is, they would probably say “a tie between puppies and boogers” because they were five years old. They would probably also say the Banjo-Kazooie series! (Not including the car racing one. We don’t talk about the car racing one around here.)

Well 3D platformer fans, there’s a new quirky duo, and they’re starring in Yooka-Laylee, a revival of the mascot-focused adventure games of yesteryear. It’s being run by the creative director of Banjo-Kazooie, with music written by Grant Kirkhope (aka the dude who could put a soundtrack to your shopping trip and make it magical), and it got funded in about 40 minutes. At the time of writing this, it’s rocketed past it’s goal of $264,600, and is now sitting at a staggering $1,886,067 US.

I really miss those classic mascot games, and I’m extremely excited to see that we might be getting a new one. But Kickstarter has become less of a “power to the people” thing and more of a huge gamble, so I’m keeping my expectations low. But secretly I’m pumped. Check out the kickstarter page here.
