New Year, New Critical Hit (A Letter from the Editor)
2015 was quite a ride for the Critical Hit. We laughed, we cried, we fought a bear; All in all, it was a pretty good year.
What are we doing now? Well, we’re still relaxing after our charity drive: A Critical Cause: Gamer for Mental Health. Once again, thanks to everyone who’s donated so far! We’re planning to do more events to support the charity fund, so follow us on Twitter and Facebook to know what (and when) the next event will be. Stay tuned.
But here’s the big reason this post exists: There’s going to be some changes around here.
Now hold on! Don’t get mad and throw your controller at the screen, OK? Let me explain.
The Critical Hit has a separate chat window all to ourselves where we talk about everything from Star Wars to Dungeons & Dragons. We have such amazing conversations on Facebook about, well, everything. We have, in my opinion, some of the best writers and comedians on our team, and it’s always great to hear the crew talk about the things that matter to them.
You’re going to get more stuff from us. Much more. Because now, we’ll be talking about anything that’s interesting to us.
Obviously our main passion and focus will be about video games, but we’re fascinated by a lot of subjects. Nolan loves to rant about journalism in the internet age, something he and I fight about constantly. Tony can’t stop pushing a new Japanese anime or western cartoon on me; so now he can tell you all about how awesome One Punch Man is! I love tabletop games, and I’ve been kicking around a pen & paper RPG series that will blow your mind. Albertine can talk about how much she loves Life is Strange, or Jessica Jones, or anything else!
Because now, we’re free. Free to talk about whatever catches our attention. We’re no longer a site about gaming, we’re a site for people who play and make games. Chances are, you have other interests outside of gaming as well. You aren’t a stereotype: The old myth that people who play game are awkward shut-ins who live in their mother’s basement is long dead. You are a person with hopes and ambitions, who wants to hear about the world from a couple of funny, insightful people. Everybody plays video games now: The culture is more diverse than ever before. It’s time we changed along with the hobby we love.
We’re excited for the future, and we can’t wait to share more of ourselves with you.
Here’s to 2016. We’ll see you in the new year.
