If you ask around, I bet majority of people you come across know about the iconic game rock, paper, scissors. Rock, paper, scissors is traditionally a hand game played between two people. Each person simultaneously forms one of three shapes:

ROCK a closed fist
PAPER a flat hand
SCISSORS a fist with the index and middle finger extended, forming a “V”

“A simultaneous, zero-sum game, it has only two possible outcomes: a draw, or a win for one player and a loss for the other.”
— Wikipedia

Rock, paper, scissors originated in China and Japan and can date back as far as 200 AD. This game is timeless and has been loved throughout history.

I want to make my own version of rock, paper, scissors and spice things up a bit.

THE IDEATION

The goal is to create a rock, paper, scissors game which incorporates projection, graphics, buttons, 3D glasses, and fun. There will be a projection of the game on the wall and two large buttons on a table or pedestal, one blue, one red. The game will start with an introduction of some sort, introducing the game, and informing who’s playing that there will be two players and they will play “best two-out-of-three.”

The game will begin and instead of using your hands, each player presses the button in front of him or her. The button will trigger a random code, choosing either rock, paper, or scissors for the player. The results are totally random, and the code/system keeps score. Once the game is over and a winner is chosen, the game resets.

THE BRAND

The goal is for my game to look different and be a little quirky.

In a previous proposal of mine, I mentioned two different directions.
Direction 01 “Different” Rock, Paper, Scissors
Direction 02 Retro Video Game Meets Anaglyph 3D

For my brand moving forward, I’d like to combine these two aesthetics. Instead of the usual “rock” hand, the computer will show a “rock-and-roll” hand. There will be a combination of warm and cool colors (red and blue) to bring in a 3D vibe. There will be a retro aesthetic as well.

NEXT STEPS

Moving forward, I will progress on some of the illustrations for the projection, figure out the animation side of things, and start looking into code to see how the randomization and score keeping will work.

I’m excited to see how this project progresses in the next few weeks!
