The impossible hiding spot
Pick a weight you can lift once and only once. Now lift it ten times.
No matter what weight you picked, you picked the wrong one. If you picked a weight you can lift 10 times, then it’s not one you can life once and only once. If you picked a weight you can lift once and only once, there’s no way you can lift it 10 times right now.
When we are asked to do the impossible, it’s frustrating. But when we ask ourselves to do the impossible, the lose-lose scenario allows us to hide. We create a story where we can never win.
If you see yourself in a scenario where you can never win, then the next question that comes to mind is, “Why start?”
The thing about asking yourself to do something, is that you’re the boss — you are allowed to change what you ask yourself. The key is being able to recognize when you are being an asshole of a boss to yourself.
