Let’s start by understanding the concept of pages in dashboards. Any Tableau CRM dashboard can have up to 20 pages. These pages can be linked to each other or added to the navigation bars. This is a very useful concept where we can add multiple pages or tabs to a dashboard without the need of creating multiple dashboards. To create a page, simply click on the + sign next to the Default on the left side of the dashboard.

Click the + sign to add more pages.

You can also clone an existing page by clicking on the downward arrow next to the page name and then clicking clone.

Click Clone to clone the page to a new page

Once we reach a total of 20 pages, the + sign is greyed out. Well, as we learned before we can add up to 20 pages only.

Here is the kicker. But what if we have to add more than 20 pages? Can’t we do that? Do we have to create new dashboards?

The answer to all these questions is Components! It’s another type of dashboard that lets us add more pages! Think of components as a dashboard within a dashboard! It is that useful! In other words, components are mini dashboards.

The other use of components is that we can use the same component in multiple dashboards! How cool is that!!

Let’s check out Components!

Start by dragging the Component widget on the left side of the dashboard.

Component
Dragged on to the Dashboard

Now click on the Component and it gives us two options:

  1. Adding an existing Component
  2. Creating a new one.
Add an existing Component or Create a new Component

Let’s start by adding an existing Component. Click on the Component name and it adds the component in a jiffy!

After the Component is added

Next, we will create a new component. Drag in another Component widget to the dashboard and click on the widget. Then click on Create new component. This will open up a new component that resembles a blank dashboard.

Adding a new Component

There are two ways of adding the same component to the dashboard:

  1. To add multiples of the same component, just clone the page!

2. When we go to a new page, click on the Page default gear icon and then expand Unused Widgets. We can see the component there as well; after we drop the component on that specific page, we won’t see it under unused widgets for that specific page anymore since it's actually being used now. This is useful if the page already has a ton of stuff on it and you don’t want to have to go there and delete everything else off the page as well.

Adding Unused Component Widget to a Page

Now that we have added a component, let’s turn it into a mini dashboard with tables, charts, and a navigation bar.

Now we will add this to the existing dashboard! Go back to the dashboard, click on the component widget we had added and select the new component! Viola! You now have a mini dashboard within your main dashboard.

Adding the Created Component to the Dashboard

Editing Components

Just click on the Component widget that we added, on the right pane, we can see the option to edit the component. Click edit. That will take us back to the component to edit.

Edit Component

We can add global filters to the main dashboard and those will interact with the components when the Allow Filtering and Faceting is checked.

Finally, Component is an integral part of Tableau CRM dashboards and when used with proper understanding, this nifty tool can be extremely powerful!
