Too many crocheters — to my mind — apologize for their craft rather than embrace it. While I have never once heard a knitter suggest that there is a knitting stitch that could (or even should) duplicate crochet, I have heard multiple crocheters fall all over themselves to explain how a crochet hook can be used to make stitches that mimic knitting.
Adding insult to injury, crochet conferences often offer classes on how to make your crochet look more like knitting.
For my part, I like crochet the way it is, and there is nothing I would change.
