Thinking can be practiced. Thinking can be improved. Thinking can be understood. It is the first step in augmenting our individual intelligence, it allows the expansion of our minds, and empowers us to invent solutions to humanity’s most difficult problems. When a number of augmented minds gather, a new synergy is born, and the impossible starts to happen.

Thinking is the most powerful tool we have. It is the wind that blows behind civilization, moving it forward into a better state of being. To think is to serve the future of humanity, and there can be no better purpose. Thinking brings about a desire to become a collaborative human. The better we can think, the better the collaborators we can find, and they help us in our journey to augment our individual intelligence. In any field of work, we must reach out to the pioneers. They are waiting for us to find them, because they too know, that collaborative humans are hard to find.

We must not think that we are a collaborative civilization, but that we are dreaming of becoming one. We have only to look around to see the depressed state of the world we have created. To understand how depressed our state is, we study history, which shows us that, for the most part of the last hundred years, not much has improved. Great thinkers gave us their wild minds, and have become forgotten heroes. The answers of the future are found in history. There is no great thought to be found in the present. The great thinkers have already had those thoughts. Our job is to find the current generation of great thinkers who are implementing the thoughts of the past.

Great thinkers are not popular. They travel unlit paths, they see dimly lit bulbs from a distance, hoping to find other great thinkers, so they walk towards the bulbs. Most of the time, these bulbs are lighting up the wrong minds, but on rare occasions, a great thinker is encountered, and they show us a new path. Their augmented intelligence helps us augment our own, and together we collaborate to augment our collective intelligence, one mind at a time.

I have thought of technology for most of my career, and have been looking for the great thinkers from all corners of our Earth. I have found great thinkers like Alan Kay, who introduced me to other great thinkers like David A. Smith and his company Croquet, David P. Reed, Bret Victor and his company Dynamicland.

Reach out to the great thinkers who inspire you. Share your dreams with them. They are waiting for you. They will be good to you, they will make you a better human, and ignite in you an inferno of optimism about the future of humanity. They will welcome you into their universe of thinking, as if it were your own, and you will collaborate to push civilization forward.

It may be one of the most rewarding journeys of your life, and you will see that you can be the next Isaac Newton, Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Gutenberg, Maria Montessori, Pablo Picasso, Doug Engelbart, Helen Keller, Albert Einstein or Ludwig van Beethoven. You can be any one of them, or you can be all of them. There is no limit to the mind you can create for yourself, and the universes of the future that you can invent.
