In less than one week, news of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be flooding tech and gaming newsrooms, and the internet will be breaking over what will undoubtedly be Nintendo’s most important marketing push since the game company’s initial efforts for the previous Switch eight years ago.
It almost feels like a lifetime ago when the handheld console with the blue and red detachable controllers (aka Joy-Cons) was revealed to the world as the successor to the floundering Nintendo Wii-U, the home-based console that failed to set the world on fire.
The form and functionality of the original Switch revived the Nintendo community, making gamers excited again and, in some sense, is the reason the handheld gaming market is booming. I struggle to begin to name all the handhelds available for portable gaming now, but even I know that Valve’s Steam Deck and the Asus ROG Ally are in the conversation.
