Introducing Cross-Chain Group
Welcome to the Cross-Chain Group blog! Below you’ll find a bit more about our history, mission, initial projects, and upcoming announcements.
What is Cross-Chain Group (CCG)?
Cross-Chain Group (CCG) is an industry resource and working group dedicated to advancing the research, design, and implementation of technologies that benefit multiple chains. Founded in August 2019 by Summa and Keep, CCG is a grassroots organization that enables multilateral coordination between individuals and companies at the forefront of blockchain engineering.
CCG provides non-partisan stewardship for technical projects and standards, promotes the adoption of cross-chain technologies, and fosters the development of standards processes. In doing so, we aim to make cross-chain development the default for new projects.
Why Cross-Chain Collaboration?
Over the past decade, it has become increasingly clear that a single-chain solution is unlikely in the foreseeable future. As new, purpose-built chains continue to launch, the blockchain space will further fragment — increasing friction, eroding usability, and dividing the attainable market for any given project.
To combat these effects, developers and projects across chains must come together to identify common problems, research, and build solutions that benefit the entire industry. We formed CCG as a medium for just such a community. Through CCG, cross-chain resources will become more readily available, and projects will be better equipped to support cross-chain interoperability.
We envision a future where users, value, and information flow freely between chains, removing many of the problems and limitations we face today.
CCG Events & Workshops
Back in August, we quietly kicked off CCG by bringing together a select group of developers, researchers, and industry leaders for our first annual Cross-Chain Summit. A few highlights from the summit include James Prestwich (Summa) unveiling a new BTC-ETH relay powered by Summa’s SPV proofs, Jack Zampolin (Cosmos) sharing the latest developments on IBC, and Matt Luongo (Keep) officially announcing CCG’s tBTC.
Since the summit, we’ve had several whiteboarding sessions, events, and talks throughout the community.
In late August, we held an open whiteboarding session at the Web3 Summit in Berlin and a tBTC event at ETHBerlin’s Factory.
- In October in Osaka, we held an open whiteboarding workshop at the Devcon5 venue.
- At the end of October, we ran a developer workshop at the Epicenter Conference in SF.
This fall, we held two community events in NYC:
- October 18th — Demos of UMA & Dan Robinson’s y-token using tBTC. Hosted by UMA.
- November 13th — Presentations on innovations in interoperability, featuring Cosmos, Tezos, and tBTC. Hosted by CoinShares and Meltem Demirors.
If you’re interested in following CCG or attending future events, be sure to follow us on Twitter or subscribe to our newsletter for the latest announcements and events.
The Road Ahead
The wait is almost over! In the coming weeks, we’ll finally be able to share who we’ve selected as our initial members and additional details about what we have in store for 2020.
If you’re working on interoperability, or have an interest in expanding your project’s cross-chain architecture, we’d love to connect. You can join the conversation in our Telegram channel, or apply for membership on our site.
For those of you that applied, but haven’t heard back from us yet, don’t worry! We’re working to get back to each of you as quickly as possible, and plan to expand membership soon.
