One by one, we continue to strike up friendships with local shelters and social programs, for the purpose of adding Resource Center to their existing tools and benefits. This month, we reached out to The Dwelling Place in Gaithersburg, MD.
The Dwelling Place helps homeless families with children get back on track and into a permanent home. The 2–3 year program gives each family intensive support with finances, employment, and case management. Resource Center perfectly complements the program’s goals of career enrichment and family support. Also, The Dwelling Place only has two computers in its lab, so the tablet we gave them is sure to be useful.
When we first contacted the staff, they were — unsurprisingly — wary of our “free gift.” Nothing is ever free, someone pointed out. However, when we met some of the staff in person, we had the opportunity to point to Jesus, whose forgiveness of our sins is completely free for us. We explained that we are simply giving Resource Center away to emulate God’s love and show gratitude for Jesus’ sacrifice. They were so grateful for our gift!
We delivered the Resource Center materials (which include a free tablet) at The Dwelling Place on the 31st. We will update you with any encouraging stories we hear from them in future months!
